Kaski Inc. Proud CLA Union Member

The mention of union often evokes thoughts of tradition and the historical backdrop of workers uniting for just treatment. It can also evoke feelings of pride, tension, or anger when the viewpoints of those involved don’t line up. The inception of CLA in 1931 was rooted in representing workers and employers throughout the US, with the goal of creating the best possible workplace environment. The CLA is certified as a labor union by the National Labor Relations Board.  Like other unions, CLA engages in negotiations for contracts, safeguards workers’ rights, and ensures that its members receive fair treatment in their workplaces. What sets CLA apart is its grounding in faith-based principles, promoting integrity, collaboration, and honesty across all facets of labor relations.
Kaski Inc. joined the CLA in 2017 to provide access to benefits and representation for our employees. The operation method of the CLA allows for the crossing of trade lines, which provides a unique opportunity for Kaski Inc. employees to be trained in different areas of work. Thankfully, this structure has allowed us to reduce lay-offs during our harsh Minnesota winters and has provided access for employees to learn a wide variety of skills.
It’s important to acknowledge that as a member of the CLA, Kaski Inc. does not function in opposition to other local unions. Whether it is the CLA, the carpenters, the laborers, or the ironworkers, all unions share a common objective of advocating for the welfare of the workforce. The construction projects in northern Minnesota thrive due to the combined expertise of various skilled trades and the representative bodies advocating for them. CLA presents an additional choice that aligns with specific principles while operating harmoniously within the broader union framework.
